Flinders Chase National Park

Project: Visitors Centre Redevelopment
Architect: Troppo Architects
Project Value: $16.99 Mill

In the aftermath of the catastrophic 2020 bushfires that ravaged the western end of Kangaroo Island, the reconstruction of the region’s tourism infrastructure became a critical priority. One of the cornerstone projects in this recovery effort was the rebuilding of the Kangaroo Island Western Visitor Centre, an essential hub for tourism, education, and park operations in Flinders Chase National Park.

Harrold & Kite Pty Ltd were appointed as Managing Contractors to lead the redevelopment. Given the remote location and complete loss of infrastructure, the initial and urgent priority was to establish temporary accommodation for construction personnel. With all the local accommodation destroyed in the fires.

This building included a Grand Gallery, Retail and Café, Offices and Meeting Room, Media and Radio Rooms, Operations and Laboratory, Observation Deck and Staff Accommodation, with external Amenities, shelters for the rainwater tanks and solar panels, and carparking.
