Beehive Corner

Project: Heritage Restoration
Architect: Ron Danvers

Harrold & Kite proudly undertook the heritage renovation of the iconic Beehive Corner Building in Adelaide’s CBD, one of South Australia’s most recognisable Gothic Revival facades.

A key feature was the removal and faithful reinstalment of the original turrent, including the replacement of the gilded Beehive and Bee, previously removed. This involved complex structural coordination in line with the 1896 design by George Kiewitz-Soward.

Earthquake bracing was integrated discreetly, and lost gable ends from the 1954 Adelaide earthquake were reconstructed to match the historic form.  The project included restoration of damaged masonry, gargoyles, and decorative plaster moulds, all repaired or replicated using traditional methods.  A full lime mortar repointing and brickwash were applied to preserve and unify the façades.

Delivered with precision and historical sensitivity, this project reflects Harrold & Kite’s expertise in heritage construction and commitment to preserving South Australia’s built legacy.
