PIRSA – SA Aquatic Sciences Centre

Project: Facade and Roof Refurbishment
Architect: Phillips/Pilkington
Project Value: $2.50 Mill

Harrold & Kite was engaged to refurbish the aging façade and roof of the SA Aquatic Sciences Centre, originally constructed in the mid-1980s. The existing glass block façade had deteriorated significantly, requiring full replacement. The scope also included constructing a new lift tower with an operating lift and replacing all roof capping’s and flashings to restore watertight integrity.

Delivered under a GCS model in collaboration with PIRSA and DIT, the project involved close coordination with the design team, including PPA and ARUP Engineering. Despite the complexity, PIRSA staff remained in full occupation throughout.

A critical component of the project’s success was the early procurement of custom glass blocks from an overseas supplier, manufactured to match the original specifications.

Completed on time and within budget, the project demonstrates Harrold & Kite’s expertise in live-site refurbishment, collaborative delivery models, and managing technical procurement in heritage or bespoke infrastructure upgrades.
