KI Prospect Hill

Project: New Stair and Lookout Construction
Architect: Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec
Project Value: $1.10 Mill

The project was led by the existing Lookout being closed due to safety reasons. The site is highly exposed to the elements with the Southern Ocean only 500m away to the south and Pelican Lagoon, and North Coast of Kangaroo Island 500m to the north.

The site was delicate due to local flora and fauna, and it is the largest sand hill on Kangaroo Island. The piles were driven in using a screw pile compressor and a vibrating ramming head.

Due to the remoteness and inaccessibility, material was lifted up and the old stairs lifted down via helicopter, otherwise material was carried up. There was only one access to the site – from the bottom of the existing staircase, as the new staircase was built directly on top of the existing.
