Project: Chimpanzee Exhibit
Architect: Phillips/Pilkington
Project Value: $1.35 Mill
Harrold & Kite were engaged as Construction Managers for the delivery of this key zoo attraction, fast-tracked to align with the scheduled arrival of chimpanzees relocated from other zoos.
The project required early construction commencement and precise coordination to meet the strict program deadline. The facility was constructed with a robust structural steel frame, full-height internal concrete block walls, and concrete slabs. Lightweight steel and CFC were used for the upper floor structure, with external cladding in metal. Timber was extensively featured throughout public decks and viewing areas, providing a warm and natural aesthetic.
Custom 38mm-thick glass was installed for secure and clear animal viewing. The facility also includes public amenities, event servery spaces, office accommodation, and dedicated food preparation areas for zoo staff.
This project demonstrates Harrold & Kite’s ability to deliver complex, fast-tracked animal and visitor infrastructure with high-performance materials, safety, and public engagement in mind.
