Project: Refurbishment of Two Heritage Buildings
Architect: Grieve Gillett Architects
Project Value: $3.10 Mill

Harrold & Kite was engaged to deliver the conversion and refurbishment of two heritage buildings at the Glenside site, transforming them into creative learning spaces for the Adelaide Central School of Art.

The project introduced purpose-built art studios, tutorial rooms, gallery areas, and administrative offices while preserving much of the existing building fabric.

A standout feature was the adaptive reuse of the former Male Dormitory, where individual holding cells were opened up to create distinctive and character-filled studio spaces for students. This thoughtful approach maintained the building’s historical significance while meeting contemporary educational needs.

Both buildings underwent significant services and amenities upgrades to comply with current building codes and improve functionality.

Despite the complexity of working within heritage structures, the project was delivered on schedule and within budget, reflecting Harrold & Kite’s expertise in sensitive refurbishments and educational infrastructure.
